Meet our management team

Joel Morris

Executive Director

Dr Joel Morris is Union’s Executive Director, overseeing the strategic and operational direction of the organisation. He is an active member of Grace Community Church, Porthcawl. He spent serveral years as a missionary with OM before a doctorate and career in engineering which took him to Seoul National University in the Nuclear Engineering Department. He is married to Hyelim and they have three children.

Jonathan Stephen

Provost and Lecturer in Preaching

As a member of the Executive Management, Jonathan Stephen oversees the general development of Union and leads the work of the School. He teaches in the areas of preaching, pastoralia and church leadership. He is an elder of Grace Church, Bridgend.

During his ministry of nearly 20 years at Carey Baptist Church, Reading, he mentored a steady stream of future church leaders. From its base at Carey, he also co-led Prepared for Service, for many years the national training scheme of the Fellowship of Independent Evangelical Churches.

He served as President of the FIEC (1998-2001), and also as Director of the British Evangelical Council (2003-09), which he re-formed under its current name, Affinity.

In September 2006, he became Principal of Wales Evangelical School of Theology – now evolved into Union.

He is married to Sheila, and they have one son, Jeremy, and two grandsons, Austin and Jolyon.

Phil Hill

Pastoral Dean and Lecturer in Pastoral Theology

Phil Hill is Union's Pastoral Dean in partnership with the Evangelical Movement of Wales, and Lecturer in Pastoral Theology. He has pastored churches in Wales, England, and Israel. He spent five years in Israel as Head of Ministerial Formation at Nazareth Evangelical Theological Seminary, Galilee.

Cornelis Bennema

Academic Dean and Senior Lecturer in New Testament

Cornelis (Cor) Bennema is the Academic Dean and Senior Lecturer in New Testament. Cor comes from the Netherlands where he worked as an IT professional before he moved to the UK for his theological studies. He then taught in India at SAIACS, a postgraduate theological seminary, for eleven years, and joined Union School of Theology in 2013.
