We are delighted to announce that Dr. Dustin Benge has been appointed as the next Provost of Union School of Theology, starting on 1st May.
Dr. Benge is currently Senior Fellow of The Andrew Fuller Center for Baptist Studies at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and Creative Director for the Seminary, where he was awarded his PhD on Jonathan Edwards. Previously he was Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church, Jackson, KY. He is also a Visiting Professor at Munster Bible College in Cork, Ireland, and Editor of OnePassion Ministries’ magazine, Expositor. He is the author of eight books and many academic articles. His wife, Molli, is a primary school teacher.
Dr. Michael Reeves, President and Professor of Theology, said, ‘Dustin is an outstandingly able theological churchman and pastor at heart. He embodies the rigour of mind, graciousness of character, and passion for Christ and his church that we want to foster in our students: I am thrilled that he will be bringing his considerable expertise and experience to this senior role.’
Dustin Benge writes, ‘I am profoundly grateful to Dr. Michael Reeves and for the kind providence of the Lord in allowing me to join the faculty, staff, and students of Union School of Theology. From the campus in Wales, to the multiple Learning Communities around the world, Union has set the standard of biblical and theological education for those serious about gospel training and ministry. I am truly humbled by this tremendous opportunity and recognize the privilege and responsibility to faithfully steward this position for the advance of Christ’s kingdom in Wales and abroad.’
Dr. Benge will be based at our South Wales campus, leading our faculty and overseeing Union School of Theology’s academic programmes. He succeeds Dr Ian Shaw who becomes CEO of the Opal Trust after serving for three years as Provost.
Union offers theology degrees from BA to PhD to those preparing for ministry, planting churches, or considering mission work. All are warmly invited to our campus open day on Tuesday 24th March 2020. More details are available here.
