Dr Ian Shaw to become Provost

We are excited to announce that in September Dr Ian Shaw will join the Union team on campus as our new Provost. He joins us after spending the last nine years working as the Director of the Langham Partnership UK Scholars Ministry, which supports the training of lecturers in evangelical theological seminaries in the Majority World. He is also Honorary Fellow in the School of Divinity, University of Edinburgh. Before that he served for twelve years as Dean of Postgraduate Studies and Lecturer in the History of Christianity at International Christian College, Glasgow. He is the author of six books in the fields of Church history and historical theology. His first ministry was eight years spent as Pastor of a church in Salford, Manchester. Ian is married to Christine, who is a Deputy-Head teacher in a school for children with Special Educational Needs. They have four grown children and one grandson.

Michael Reeves writes: ‘Ian is exactly the gracious pastor-theologian we need in this key role, combining as he does concerns for theological rigour, gospel faithfulness and spiritual maturity. He will be a wonderful asset on campus and in our learning communities as he helps to enhance Union in all these areas.

Ian said ‘I am excited at the invitation to join the highly able and growing team at Union. Having spent nine years working with theological colleges around the world I am looking forward bringing my experience and global perspectives to contribute to the fine work Union is already doing. I want to help shape both Union’s campus and learning communities as places where biblical faithfulness, academic excellence, and spiritual maturity are carefully nurtured, so that students are well equipped to serve churches and share the gospel’.
