Training for your church

Union and your church

Partnering with you to raise up leaders and multiply ministry in your area

We want to raise up a new generation of pastors and leaders who love Christ and will take his gospel to the ends of the earth. We know that many churches share this vision, but so often have to send promising young leaders miles away for their studies and never see them return.

Union Learning Communities enable students to enjoy rich formation as a believer and rigorous theological study – alongside continuing service in their local church. They have access to UST’s specialist faculty, earn accredited degrees, and do not have to leave their context. This means local pastors can grow their staff teams, send out church planters, and grow in partnership with other local churches, keeping their young leaders close by.

Case study: Worthing, UK

Union’s Learning Community in Worthing, UK began in 2016. The church’s assistant pastor was a UST graduate, and was sent out to plant a church in another city with funding from Union Mission. The sending church was able to appoint its new assistant pastor the same year, having raised him through the GDip programme in the Learning Community.

Start a Learning Community

By hosting a Learning Community, leaders in your church can access Union's seminary-level theological training while they continue to serve your ministry.

Teaching and tutoring is provided by Union's faculty, while a volunteer Lead Mentor from the church hosts and leads the group.

The ability to raise up leaders in-context and without taking time out from ministry has allowed many churches to plant new congregations with greater speed and ease than ever before. Our Learning Community students who plant can access resources and apply for funding from Union Mission, which has distributed nearly £1.5m to planting projects since 2017.

Fuelling growth through theological resources

Union is devoted to growing leaders and growing their churches, so Union Publishing produces books, video, and audio to help all Christians delight in God. This content ministry aims to help every believer grow in love for the Lord.

In 2023, Michael Reeves travelled to Alexandria to speak at a regional conference for evangelical pastors. The conference was designed to coincide with the launch of his Union Publishing book, Authentic Ministry, in Arabic, so that local ministers could benefit from both the teaching and the resources. As a result, pastors in Alexandria and Cairo joined forces to establish a Learning Community which is now raising new leaders for Egypt and beyond. Here, events, resources, and Learning Communities combined to enable ongoing partnership and support.
