Donald Mitchell

On the night of 17th December 2020, we learned that our librarian, Donald Mitchell was struck by a car and killed while traveling home on his bicycle. Donald was a godly man, faithful to Christ, and a friend to all who knew him. He was a much loved and important part of the Union family.

The entire Union family is grieving now, and will be for some time. However, we do not grieve as those who have no hope, but we do grieve the grief that believers in Christ know in such tragic loss (1 Thess. 4:13). “To live is Christ and to die is gain,” and we hold tightly to that comforting truth as our only hope during such tragic and devastating times (Phil. 1:21).

Our love and prayers translate into heartbreak for Donald’s dear wife, Sian, and their daughters, Hannah, Eluned and Siriol. We are carrying them all in our hearts and are praying the comfort that surpasses all understanding will cling tightly to the Mitchell family as they walk through the coming days.

We are so very thankful for a ministry family that demonstrates love and care for one another out of a sincere desire to honor Christ. What then can we say to these things? Paul answered: “If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?” (Rom. 8:32).

Right now, none of us can think of Donald’s death without a sense shock, but in a fallen world death is real. Yet, we know that the love of Christ is far greater than the power of death.
