Luke 5 Scholarship
In Luke chapter 5 we read of people who sought to meet Jesus but faced significant barriers, including disability, illness, or social exclusion. Each received specific help to meet their need, including from friends. Union School of Theology is committed to offering assistance to students from such under-represented groups. We are delighted to make available a designated ‘Luke 5’ scholarship to a student who has faced a significant barrier to learning before applying for theological studies. It is available for a student intending to study on our BA (Hons) programme or MTh programme, starting in September 2020.
The sorts of barriers to theological learning the ‘Luke 5’ scholarship is intended to help students to overcome include disability or illness, or as a result of being a refugee, asylum seeker, or member of a disadvantaged ethnic minority group.
In addition, applicants for the ‘Luke 5’ Scholarship should:
Be able to demonstrate a deep personal commitment to theological study in the theological tradition of UST
Be working towards a clear ministry outcome [such as pastoral role in a church, cross-cultural mission, work with a Christian agency, teaching, writing, taking first steps to research, etc]
Have the endorsement of a supporting church or Christian ministry [such as cross-cultural mission, Christian agency]
Be able to raise the rest of the financial support required for their studies (we can offer help and advice on how to go about this)
Preference will be given to students intending to study full-time, but applications for part-time study will be considered. Students with disabilities should also apply for Disabled Student’s Allowance.
The scholarship will fully cover UST fees, or where students are able to gain Student Loan funding for fees, the scholarship can cover accommodation on campus. Students will receive mentored support from the Tutor for Wellbeing and Community throughout their studies.
