An interview with Natasha Davidson

Natasha is a first-year student on our flexible BA, as well as being part of the 20schemes project in Edinburgh. Here, she shares her experiences and advice for anyone considering theological training!

What made you want to study with Union?

I wanted to study because I want to be better equipped in teaching God’s Word to those around me, whether it be women or children, and also for my own walk with the Lord, to be deepened.

What are you most enjoying about studying on the BA?

It’s simple but I’m just really enjoying learning and studying God’s Word.  The classroom hasn’t always been my favourite place but being taught more about God and His Word has been really invaluable. I’ve also really enjoyed the relationships being built with my classmates, even though we’re currently doing all our classes on Zoom.

Is there one lecture that's stuck with you so far?

There have been several lectures that I have really enjoyed, but one was a Pentateuch class - the lecture was on Creation and I was just so struck by how God cares for the tiniest of details, right down to the way He created on days 1-3 then filled the earth on days 4-6. It was taught in a way that I hadn’t heard or seen before, and it just opened up and whole new view and understanding of Genesis 1 for me.

How do you see the course shaping you in life and ministry?

My biggest prayer is that my love for God and His Word grows deeper and that I am best equipped to continue to share the gospel and to teach God’s Word to the very best of my ability to my local community for the glory of God. I’m hoping the course will teach me things that I can pass on to others and that it teaches me the things I need to know to live a life that brings glory to God alone.

What advice would you give others considering theological training?

Do it! Even though it’s hard, you will be so thankful. I was apprehensive about studying, but I am glad I’ve been given this opportunity. Your own faith will grow, you will be excited by what you learn from God’s Word and you will be better equipped to minister to those around you - it’s worth it. It’s a privilege.
