2022 Bursaries and Scholarships

Union School of Theology is offering two sets of grants for students planning to enter local church ministry in the UK.

As we begin 2022, we are aware that finances are tight for everybody, while the ongoing uncertainty surrounding Covid makes many nervous about planning for the future. Yet we are determined that the church doesn’t lose out on its next crop of leaders.

If you’d hoped to begin theological study with the aim of entering Christian ministry, but have been held back by the difficult times we’re in, we want to make it easier for you to start now. Whatever blend of campus and home learning works best for you, you will enjoy a community-focussed, fully accredited, seminary education to help prepare you for a life of service to Christ and his church.

BA (Hons) Bursaries

We are offering ten bursaries which will cover 50% of your tuition fees for the whole course of your study, reducing the annual cost from £8600 to £4300 (full time) or from £4680 to £2340 (part time).

Our BA (Hons) offers the richest possible experience of formation for ministry. The format of your study is flexible – from three years full-time to six years part-time, residential on campus, or blended with community-focused online learning at home. However you study, the BA gives you a broad and deep introduction to theology, biblical studies, and Christian ministry. You will delve into church history and learn biblical languages, grapple with doctrine, and grow in your love for the Lord.

To apply for this bursary, you will need to get in touch with us while you are preparing your application for the BA course. We will ask for evidence from your church leader or denomination that they foresee you serving in UK-based ministry in the future, and we’ll process this with your course application.

Let us know you’d like to apply for this bursary by emailing admissionenquiries@ust.ac.uk.

GDip and MTh Scholarships

A generous donor has made available several scholarships for our graduate level courses from September 2022.

If you are an evangelical Christian living in the UK with a degree in a subject other than theology and have the desire and potential to enter into ministry in the UK, you may be considered for one of these scholarships. Grants are for £3000 a year for up to three years, covering almost the entirety of the cost of a Graduate Diploma, and up to 85% of the cost of a Master’s in Theology.

Our GDip course is taught part-time over two years in regional Learning Communities and facilitated by mentors in local churches. Equivalent to the final year of a BA, the GDip provides robust education in biblical, theological and pastoral studies to equip students for fruitful ministry. Students benefit from world-class teaching and resources in their own local context and study part-time in community, alongside current church, work or family commitments.

Our MTh course can be taken full or part-time, on campus or in Learning Communities. It will deepen your biblical and theological knowledge while strengthening your pastoral, preaching and leadership skills. It offers real academic depth with the flexibility to fit alongside your current ministry commitments.

You will need to submit an application to the GDip or MTh course to be considered for this scholarship.
