Should I host a Learning Community? Tim Blaber

Commission’s Director of Training, Tim Blaber, shares why your church should consider starting a Learning Community!

My name’s Tim Blaber, and I’m the Director of Training for Commission, which is part of the New Frontiers family of churches.

Over the past couple of years, we’ve partnered with Union to provide the Graduate Diploma (in Winchester) and the Master of Theology (in Westminster Chapel).

We’ve seen nearly 30 people commit themselves to one of those two courses. Each and every one of them has seen the massive benefit gained from the outstanding quality of teaching and mentoring that Union provides.

We were attracted to Union because of:

  • The strong theological emphasis on the gospel and the glories of Christ

  • The conviction that the church is the foundational place where the Bible is to be taught and read and applied

  • Their desire to equip those who have that task with the tools they need to do a confident job which makes much of the gospel and of the wonderful things that the Lord has done for us.

I really haven’t been disappointed. It has been such a privilege. Initially I was maybe daunted by the amount of work that might go into establishing Learning Communities. But Union staff have been so available and have made the task viable and straightforward.

Therefore we are confident that this partnership is one which will benefit our churches for many years to come. So if you’re considering partnering with Union, if you’re looking in on Union, if you’re looking at doing one of the courses, or if you’re a pastor wanting to make them available at your church, I’d urge you: go ahead and make it happen! You won’t regret it. The quality of the training that those you are encouraging onto the courses are going to receive is going to be first rate.

Go for it!
